Fly Fishing Waterfalls and swim eddies: Enchanting Mill River Schoolhouse – Available year-round. 4000 sq. ft.: 5 bedrooms, 3 baths – sleeps 10, window units AC in all bedrooms, wifi, Direct TV, pets are considered NO smoking.
This beautifully updated Historical home, which was the original New Marlboro/Mill River schoolhouse, and an original part of the Sisson Farmstead, is now available as a rental property.
The house is situated on one acre right next to the river… let the sounds gently lull you to sleep. In summer you can enjoy the falls from the old mill ruins, swimming, and tubing down the river. Inside, you have a large open kitchen with plenty of storage and prep space. This is adjoined by a dining room with table that easily seats 12 and a candelabra overhead. This fun touch makes for lovely, romantic, festive dining. Just off this room is a wraparound screened-in porch that is one of the best around. The porch has several sitting areas, a table for games or dining, a hammock, and an overhead fan. There is a grand feeling that is at the same time very relaxing and easy.
There is a parlor with wood-burning fireplace and another family room with more areas to work a puzzle, play cards, read, sing along with the upright piano, or watch TV. Finally, on this main floor there is also a master suite with a double bed full bath – shower only. Upstairs there are four more bedrooms: there is a queen bed in the master – full bath with shower and two more guest bedrooms, both with double beds. These two bedrooms share a full bath with a combination tub/shower. The forth bedroom quite charming with two twins beds and a ¼ bath! Delightful antiques and lighthearted charm are the hallmarks of this warm, inviting home. The screened –in porch can easily be enjoyed for 3 seasons. Just 15 minutes to the center of Great Barrington, which is home to gourmet eateries, shops, galleries, movie cinemas, hiking trails, and area day camps. You are an easy 10 minutes to Ski Butternut for snow tubing, skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. You are also very close to The Inn on the Green and the Southfield Store for some very fine dining. Recent updates to the bathrooms, interior paint, and wifi internet have refreshed this Historical home nicely.
