The Red Mill

The Red Mill – Luxury property in Ashley Falls, MA: 3 bedrooms, 3 ½ baths with swim pond, decks, waterfalls, central air, wifi internet, direct tv, phone.  The house sleeps a maximum of 6-8 guests. The original old grain mill was built in 1737. This sparkling, newly-renovated home was completed in 2008, without any details spared. Open soaring ceilings expose original hand hewn beams, an entire back wall of glass, 2 waterfalls, a sparkling swim pond, delightful outdoor “rooms” and nature paths that lead to intriguing discoveries… Entering the home, you are greeted by the “chains and scoops” from the grinding mill conveyor system which has been fabricated into a dividing screen in the most delightful way! You see right away the impact of the reclaimed wood flooring used throughout the home. Thoughtfully, the salvaged Old Mill’s French grinding wheel has been inlaid – like a set jewel – in the Great Room floor. The interior space is loft-like with rooms created rather than defined. The views throughout this home are extraordinary. The kitchen is spacious with soft tones in wood, stone, and stainless steal. The dining area seats 6-8, there is a flat screen HDTV lounge, fireplace nook, and a sitting room area so incredible, near the glass wall… you just have to see it. Built out from the house the glass wall actually places you over the pond with views of the falls, outflow from the dam and the tranquil swim pond! There is a wonderfully whimsical black and white tiled ½ bath on the main floor and a laundry room with washer/dryer. The three bedrooms are all on the second floor: the Master bedroom has a queen bed and with French doors opening unto views of the river, dam and waterfall. It has its own fabulous attached bathroom with double sinks, deep soaking tub, and a separate shower. The other two guest bedrooms – one with a queen bed and the other a full – each have their own gorgeous full bathrooms and are beautifully furnished. Standing on the second floor you have an open view of the ground level living areas. Take the steps up to the third floor and there is a large meditation room. Take the stairs to the lower level and you will find your self in the wine cellar. There is a table and chairs for dining, a wet bar, sink, and fridge as well as a view of the 19th century metal gears that replaced the original wooden works. They are exposed and displayed museum-style, lit, behind glass. In addition, I was also told, by the homeowner, that there is the best trout fishing in western MA right out the door!
